Hello, my name is Jim Pompilio and I am advocating for the Capital Region Go Red for Women movement as a participant in the 2022-2023 Capital Region Men Go Red for Women fundraising challenge along with 9 other Capital Region men. 1 in 3 women will die from heart disease and stroke – making it more deadly than all cancers combined. That's a third of our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, neighbors, and loved ones. But it doesn't have to be that way since 80% of cardiovascular diseases are preventable.
Heart disease runs in my family on both the maternal and paternal sides. When my son was being born, my mother was unable to be at his birth because she was admitted to the hospital with a heart problem. She subsequently required a triple bypass surgery and is fortunately still with us today, but there was a chance my son would never get to know his grandmother. I myself grew up having never met my paternal grandfather who died of congestive heart failure when my father was 10-years old at the age of 45. While it affects both sexes, I am hoping my support for Men Go Red will raise awareness that heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death for women. My hope is that through the awareness and social discourse of my efforts that those that hear about this campaign will learn what they can and make an effort for their own health and well-being as well as support the efforts of the women (and men) in their lives they hold dear.
This is why I am driven to make a powerful statement to show outward support for all the special women in my life through engaging the community and spreading awareness that heart disease is a woman’s #1 health threat!
I hope you will consider supporting me in my fundraising effort. Please click the link to donate and share it with others too, so they too can learn why I am personally committed to this great cause.
Warmest regards,
Jim
